The Purpose of the South Carolina Archival Association is:
- to foster cooperation and exchange information among individuals and institutions interested in
archival and related activities; - to promote the preservation and use of manuscript and archival resources of the state;
- to share information on archival theories and practices;
- to provide a forum for discussion of matters as they pertain to the archival profession;
- and to cooperate with organizations and professionals in related fields.

Opportunities for Service:
SCAA needs committed volunteers for the following committees:
- Awards, which recruits nominations and coordinates logistics for SCAA's annual awards (South Carolina Archivist of the Year, Career Achievement, Program Innovation, Friend of the Archives, and President's).
- Endowment, which recruits nominations, selects, and administers the award process for SCAA's endowment funds.
- Membership, which actively solicits new members and promotes SCAA's activities and meetings to archival and manuscript institutions.
- Newsletter, which assists with the editorial and production responsibilities of the newsletter to ensure the timely distribution
- Nominating, which considers candidates for the offices of vice-president, secretary, treasurer, director, and membership officer.
- Program, which assists with the coordination of arrangements and planning for the spring workshop and annual meeting.
