SCAA 2016 Fall Conference and Annual Meeting
“Sights and Sounds of South Carolina”
Friday, October 28, 2016
Presbyterian College, 503 South Broad Street, Clinton SC 29325
9:30 am to 4:00 pm
The theme for the South Carolina Archival Association’s 2016 Fall Conference is “Sights and Sounds of South Carolina”, focusing on the rich audio and visual resources housed throughout the state in museums, archives, and libraries. South Carolina not only has a wealth of photographic archives, but a growing trove of oral histories as well as video and sound / musical recordings. Making this wide variety of materials discoverable and accessible always challenges us as professionals to think outside the box and to creatively highlight these unique materials.
This year’s keynote speaker is civil rights photographer Mr. Cecil Williams, an eyewitness to and chronicler of many important events of the civil rights movement and of social change in South Carolina. He will not only share his experiences during this dynamic time in local and national history, and but also his current project to catalog and preserve thousands of negatives and images in his vast body of work, working in tandem with Claflin College in Orangeburg.
A Call for Proposals will be posted shortly to the SCAA website, the SCAA Facebook page, and distributed via email. Additional conference details will also be provided, along with information regarding registration.
